December 1 Message From the Superintendent

Dear Medical Lake School District Families,

I hope this message finds you well. During the past few weeks we have continued to meet with the Spokane Regional Health District and monitored local school districts in the management of covid cases and exposures. We currently have students and staff in our schools and have conducted multiple contact tracings. I am pleased to announce we are doing extremely well in mitigating the spread of covid in our schools.

Therefore, we will be providing the opportunity for face-to-face instruction for all of our students. You will see some students will be able to attend on a daily basis, while others will attend in a hybrid model, with half the students attending in an A/B schedule. The deciding factor comes down to the ability to meet the required 6 feet of space between students. With our older students, the class sizes tend to be larger and of course the students are larger which makes it difficult to spread them out.

On Monday, December 7, third graders at Michael Anderson and Hallett Elementaries will be returning to face-to-face instruction Monday through Friday.

On Monday, January 11, 2021 fourth and fifth graders will return to face-to-face instruction. At Michael Anderson they will be able to attend 5 days a week. At Hallett Elementary fourth and fifth grade students will attend in a hybrid model with half of the students attending in an A/B schedule due to the lack of space compared to Michael Anderson.

Michael Anderson was designed to house 600 students and their current enrollment is 330, while Hallett was designed to house 500 students and their current enrollment is 460. We simply just can’t space them out enough at Hallett to meet the 6 foot requirement.

On Monday, February 1, 2021 the middle school and high school will return to school in a hybrid model with half the students attending in an A/B schedule. This date is the beginning of the second semester.

Currently our Endeavors program has a plan in place and is having students attending school either in the morning or afternoon schedule.

You will be hearing from your child’s school in the near future. If you have questions and/or concerns please contact your individual school or email us at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to the day when we can bring back all students every single day.

Mr. Ames

Superintendent
