Dear Parents/Guardians and Community members,   

Welcome to the Medical Lake School District. My name is Tawni Barlow and I am the Student Services Director for the district. As the Student Services Director, I oversee nursing, special education, section 504 (an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met), and our mental wellness Mind Your Health program.

As I enter my eighth year with the Medical Lake School District, I remain impressed with both the school and community. With a strong commitment to teaching and learning coupled with well-researched curriculum and innovative intervention, our teachers and specialists work hard to ensure that all students receive an appropriate education. In addition to our outstanding academics, students have numerous extracurricular opportunities for enrichment, competition, and enjoyment. Our support staff, from para educators to maintenance/custodians to food service to transportation, all are dedicated to their jobs and setting the stage for students to have a positive environment for learning and growing. The community continually demonstrates its commitment to our children with the support of the school.  It takes a village!

 A little about myself, I am trained in education, administration, school psychology, counseling, and social work. Training includes data-based decision making, consultation and collaboration, counseling, cognitive assessments, family assessments, effective instruction, child development, student diversity and development, school organization, prevention, intervention, mental health, learning styles, behavior, research, and program evaluation.  I am married with two children and a Leonberger puppy. As a family, we enjoy a wide variety of activities mostly being outdoors and being active.
 

It is our mission to ensure all students are prepared to be innovative, productive citizens in an ever-changing world.  As a student services department, we are driven to provide a free and appropriate public education for all students in the least restrictive environment with high academic standards to create independent, resourceful, lifelong learners in today’s diverse world.  We pride ourselves on being supportive and available to our students. Likewise, our friendly and helpful staff will assist you in every way possible.

A motto we live by in Medical Lake is “Every Student, Every Day.” With that, I am looking forward to working with you and your child in reaching his or her full potential.
